101 Adult Dog Fosters Program
We want to change the way adult dogs are sheltered here at High Country Humane! Instead of housing them in kennels, all dogs would be placed into foster homes. But we can’t do this without YOU! Become one of our 101 adult dog fosters and together we can do what’s best for shelter dogs.
The benefits of this program include:
- Reducing stress on the pet: a home is significantly less stressful & busy than the shelter.
- Increasing adoptability: dogs in foster homes become more socialized and better understood by potential adopters.
- Reducing the spread of illness: fewer dogs in the shelter means lower risks of illness and cross-contamination.
- Providing more enrichment/training to the dogs remaining onsite.
- Preventing compassion fatigue with our team: by preventing over-capacity, we ensure our team can provide the best care while also taking care of themselves.
By signing up to be an adult dog foster, you will be saving lives and helping us change how animal sheltering is done in Northern AZ. Adult dogs will receive medical intakes and behavioral assessments, and then be sent out to foster homes until they find their forever home! - Answer “call outs” from our foster department that you will see via email or our social media platforms
- Provide your foster pet with care and love while receiving food, supplies, veterinary care, and access to a 24-hour emergency phone line
What type of pets can I foster?

- Special Medical or Behavioral Adult Cats
- Nursing Moms & Babies
- Bottle Baby Kittens & Puppies: SIGN UP TO ATTEND THIS CLASS on Sundays @1PM VIRTUALLY, HERE!
- Exotics/Small Critters
- Adult Dogs – ALWAYS NEEDED!
Requirements
- You must live within one hour of the shelter during the foster period (or within 2 hours for healthy, adult dogs)
- Must be 18+ years old
- Have reliable transportation and phone/internet access to schedule your foster pet’s vet appointments
- You cannot be fostering for any other organizations while fostering for High Country Humane
- Other animals that live in your home must be up to date on vaccinations
