Sam Wheeler

Board Chairman

Retired after 40 years as an administrator in Higher Education (28 years at NAU and 12 years at ASU) managing business operations, Sam is currently a Director and former Chairman of the Board of OneAZ Credit Union.

As a “failed foster” of two beautiful dogs from Paw Placement of Northern Arizona (PPNAZ, the parent organization of HIgh Country Humane) and proud “granddad” to two other dogs from PPNAZ, Sam has been involved on the periphery of PPNAZ for over 10 years.

Brian Landauer

Vice-Chair

Brian Landauer has enjoyed a 40 year career in management and marketing communications. He is currently General Manager of Findlay Toyota Flagstaff, one of Flagstaff’s highest regarded automobile dealerships and a strong supporter of the local community.

He has also served as Vice President of Stevinson Automotive in Denver and Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cramer Krasselt, an integrated marketing communications firm headquartered in Chicago. He has held board positions with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Phoenix and Scottsdale, the Phoenix Symphony, Colorado Public Television and the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver.

An ardent animal lover, Brian currently is the pet parent of Dorris, an Old English Sheepdog he rescued in 2018. 

 

Kelly Teeselink

Secretary

Kelly is the Council Director for Girls on the Run of Northern Arizona, a girl empowerment program service Coconino, Yavapai and Navajo counties. She has been involved with Girls on the Run since 2012, starting as a volunteer for Girls on the Run of Eastern Iowa and becoming Executive Director in 2018.

Kelly moved to Flagstaff in 2021, and is thankful to be part of this community.

In addition to Girls on the Run, Kelly has also worked in marketing, communications, fundraising and community relations in the non-profit sector.

Kelly is the proud cat mom of her kitty spice rack: Cinnamon, Dilly and Basil.

Liz Bohlke

Treasurer

Owner of Golden Years Concierge Services and a Realtor with Linton Real Estate. Liz's expertise includes a long history of senior level business and operational management.  Her long-standing commitment to the companion animals in our community began with her early work in helping to establish Paw Placement of Northern Arizona, the parent organization of High Country Humane, and includes serving as Interim Executive Director for six months during the start-up phase.

Ali Applin

Director

Ali has over 20 years of marketing and business development experience in a variety of different settings. She has helped corporate, non-profit, small startups and educational institutions design and promote products and programs across multiple platforms. She is well-versed in the art of communication and understands how critical marketing is to the success of any business. As the CEO of NALTRA, she is helping to grow and expand the organization through education, advocacy and collaboration.

She has served on several boards including High Country Humane, Flagstaff Women's Leadership Network, United Way, Flagstaff Shelter Services, STEM City, and Tynkertopia.

Ali loves living in Flagstaff and taking advantage of all the great hiking, mountain biking, and skiing this mountain town has to offer.

Amanda Bosh

Director

Amanda is a planetary scientist and Chief Operating Officer at Lowell Observatory and a lifelong animal advocate. She has a Ph.D. in Planetary Science, an SB in materials engineering, and training in board governance, fundraising, and executive leadership. She has board experience at both animal welfare and educational institutions.

Amanda is originally from Massachusetts and has lived in Flagstaff since 1992. She has fostered cats, rabbits, and even eastern freshwater corals! Amanda, her husband, and her son share their home with four cats, all of whom are "foster successes" in that they started as foster cats before being adopted; three of these cats are from High Country Humane. In her free time, Amanda has a keen interest in photography.

 

Kimberly Ott

Director                  

Kim oversees executive communications, NAU News, media relations, public records requests, social media, TV services and KNAU radio (NPR). Prior to joining NAU in 2016,        she oversaw communications for the City of Flagstaff for nearly 25 years. She worked for various Flagstaff media outlets as a news reporter/director for 10 years after she graduated with a degree in Communications from NAU.

She has been active with numerous boards and organizations in Flagstaff including the Flagstaff Leadership Program, United Way of Northern Arizona, the Guidance Center, Northland Hospice, and Northland Family Help Center.

Diane Jarvis

Director

Diane is originally from California and has a BS in Criminology and a MA in Community College Education/Criminal Justice. A military spouse who traveled the world for 22 years (and took her cats to both Korea and Germany), she and her husband Steve are happily retired in Flagstaff. A career in social services was followed by over 20 years as a volunteer in animal welfare.

In 2007, Diane started Paw Placement of Northern AZ and with other volunteers placed more than 800 cats and dogs in loving homes. In 2018, she was part of the task force that recognized the need to elevate animal welfare in our community and bid on the City of Flagstaff and Coconino County Animal Services contract. When they were awarded the contract, High Country Humane was born! Diane is very proud of the shelter and continues to be involved as a volunteer, kitten foster, and serves as the Secretary as well as Outreach Chair for the Board of Directors.

Catharine Olson

Director

Catharine has been with Nestle Purina PetCare for the last 9 years and currently leads the Quality Department where she is able to expand on her passion around pet health, wellness, and nutrition. Catharine is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Animal Sciences. She moved to Flagstaff in 2016 with Purina and has since said she’s never leaving. She has been an animal advocate from a young age, volunteering in numerous shelters across Texas, Iowa, and Arizona as well as finding numerous rescues to add to her family.

Catharine has made a home in Flagstaff with her husband, daughter, and their Husky dog. They enjoy trail running, hiking, sports, and traveling in their free time and can’t think of a more perfect town to live in and give back to.

Madison Johnson

Director

Madison is an attorney at Aspey, Watkins, & Diesel, PLLC (AWD) where she focuses her practice in the areas of business law and bankruptcy. She is a proud double wildcat, earning both her B.A. in Law and her Juris Doctor from the University of Arizona. During her law school studies, Madison served as a Note & Comment Editor on the Arizona Journal of International and Comparative Law, Ares Fellow for Civil Procedure, and Delegate for the Student Bar Association. She also served as a Teaching Fellow for the undergraduate Law B.A. program.

Since she was young, Madison has been an avid animal lover and grew up alongside several dogs and cats. Madison’s pride and joy is her orange tabby cat named Cowboy, whom she rescued in 2022. Cowboy has brought endless joy into her life ever since. Madison loves calling Flagstaff home and spends her free time skiing, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors.
