High Country Humane is seeking dedicated and compassionate people who are looking for meaningful ways to donate their time to help animals in need. Volunteers provide critical support for enrichment, training, and socialization for our animals!

Volunteer Positions:

Cleaning

Taking care of a shelter full of animals is a messy job! Our Cleaning Team Members play a vital role in the health and wellbeing of our animals, staff, and the public. It might not be a glamorous job, but your help with our laundry, dishes, and other areas is SO important and appreciated. Volunteers will be asked to participate in 3 cleaning shifts before working with the cats or dogs.

 

Cat  Team Member

Are you a feline friend? Then this is the job for you! Become a Cat Team Member to help our amazing Animal Care staff care for our kitties. This job includes socializing shy cats, playing with our rambunctious kittens, keeping our kitty rooms clean, and much more!

 

Dog  Team Member

Love to care for canines? Then this is the job for you! Become a Dog Team Member and work closely with our lovely Animal Care staff to care for our pups. This job includes the ever-favorite walks and yard time for our dogs, socializing shy pups, playing with our adorable puppies, keeping our kennels clean, hiking with the shelter dogs and much more!

Volunteer Requirements:

  1.  All HCH volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
  2.  Volunteer Uniform:
  • HCH Volunteer T-shirt
  • Badge
  • Closed-toe Shoes
  • No perfume, dangling jewelry, or sunglasses (inside) for the safety of our animals
  1.  One volunteer shift per week is required to remain active as a volunteer with High Country Humane.

Group Volunteering:

Do you have a school or workgroup that loves animals? Volunteering is so much fun and even more fun with friends. If your group has a special specific project they would like to do with us, such as a food donation drive, or onsite project please contact volunteer@highcountryhumane.org to get in contact with our volunteer coordinator. Due to liability reasons, groups are project oriented and will not be working directly with the animals however you are helping the animals greatly with all of the projects listed below for your group! 

Group Requirements:

  1.  All volunteers must be at least 18 years old
  2. Group Dates: Monday – Thursday (Based Upon Availability)
  3. Group Times: 12PM – 5PM
  4. 10 Volunteers Max
  5. Must Be Scheduled In Advance! 
  6. Group Activities Include offsite and onsite opportunities to help the shelter.
  7. ONSITE: Laundry, Dishes, Yard Maintenance, Cleaning Projects, Organizing Projects, Moving Items
  8. OFFSITE: Pet Donation Drive, Fundraising Event (Funds OR % of Proceeds)   

Community Service:

If you would like to serve community service hours with us, get started by signing up for our Volunteer Orientation class. This will cover everything you need to know about volunteering here, and we welcome you to speak with staff after the orientation to discuss the nature of your service hours.

For community service, our policy is that this must be served in the form of projects, such as dishes or laundry, and excludes animal handling.

We will not accept community service from the following:

  • Drug Charges (alcohol/marijuana excluded) due to the presence of medication on-site
  • Charges of cruelty to animals or violence to people
  • Charges relating to firearms

Q. How do I become an HCH volunteer?

Q. How do I become a Cat/Dog Team Member?

A. After attending Volunteer Orientation, you will be able to sign up for one of our Dog or Cat Classes. These classes help teach you the basics of working with our animals and will certify you as a Dog or Cat Team Member.

Q. Do I need to take a class to become a Cleaner?

A. You DO NOT need to attend a Dog/Cat Class to volunteer with us as a Cleaner, but you will need to attend Volunteer Orientation!

Q. Are there any fees I will need to pay to volunteer?

A. There is a $10 donation for your volunteer kit, including your shirt and badge.

Q. Is there a way I can volunteer from home?

A. Yes! Become a foster parent for us! Check out our foster page for more information. 

Q. Is there a required time commitment?

A. We ask our volunteers to make a commitment 1 shift a week. Your help is vital in supporting the high-quality care of our animals!
