Surrendering Your Pet
Our goal is to help you KEEP your pet by providing assistance with pet food, medical bills, or behavioral issues please let us know in your surrender application or email surrender@highcountryhumane.org ASAP.
Surrender Policies:
- See below to follow the steps that must be taken to rehome your pet BEFORE putting in a surrender application.
- An appointment is required to surrender your pet at High Country Humane. Fill out the appropriate owner surrender application below to set up an appointment. A manager will contact you to discuss your pets needs and options for surrender.
- If you have had an animal in your possession for more than 14 days, it is considered your property and the surrender process would apply vs. bringing it in as a ‘stray’ animal.
- We only accept pets from residents currently residing in Coconino County.
- Once you surrender your pet, it becomes property of High Country Humane.
- Please understand that we cannot accept dogs with Behavior Problems or a Bite History.
Surrender Fees:
- $50 per adult cat/dog
- $25 per small critter
- $25 per puppy/kitten
Before you decide to surrender your pet, we require that you do the following:
- Send us a pic/bio of your pet and we will post it on our Facebook for FREE with 16,000+ followers.

Post a photo and bio of your pet on all social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Nextdoor, etc.)

Talk to your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers or other social networks about your pet.

Look for breed specific rescues like Desert Labrador Retriever Rescue, etc. to rehome your pet to first!

Create a pet profile on: Rehome by Adopt A Pet
Rehome by Adopt a Pet charges a small listing fee (between $5 and $50 based on the type and age of your pet). Use the link above and Referral Code: RCXHAQTL2U8AD8Z to waive this fee. These tools are designed to help pet owners in need and avoid ore reduce time a pet spends in the shelter.

Surrender Applications:
What to bring with your pet when surrendering:
Dogs:
- Filled out Dog Background Form
- Relevant paperwork (veterinary records, microchip information, licensing, etc.)
- Food that your pup has been eating
- Bedding with familiar scents
- Collar, leash, harnesses, toys, etc.
Cats:
- Filled out Cat Background Form
- Relevant paperwork (veterinary records, microchip information, licensing, etc.)
- Bedding with familiar scents
- Food that your kitty has been eating
- Toys, treats, collar, etc.
NOTE: Cats MUST be in a carrier when brought to HCH
Small Mammals:
- Relevant paperwork (veterinary records, microchip information, licensing, etc.)
- Any supplies, tanks, cages, etc.
Small Critters:
