FOSTER OPPORTUNITIES

About the Foster Program

Fostering animals is a profoundly rewarding experience that not only benefits the animals themselves but also brings joy and fulfillment to the foster families involved. Every year we see thousands of animals come through our doors and we are able to find them loving homes with the help of INCREDIBLE foster families just like YOU!

The benefits of fostering include but are not limited to:

  • Reducing stress on the pet: a home is significantly less stressful & busy than the shelter.
  • Increasing adoptability: animals in foster homes become more socialized and better understood by potential adopters.
  • Reducing the spread of illness: fewer animals in the shelter means lower risks of illness and cross-contamination.
  • Providing more enrichment to the animals remaining onsite
  • Preventing compassion fatigue with our team: by preventing over-capacity, we ensure our team can provide the best care while also taking care of themselves..

All animals will receive medical intakes and then be sent out to foster homes until they find their forever home! Join our foster team today and help us make a HUGE difference!

What type of pets can I foster?

    • Kittens & Puppies – the foster period for kittens and puppies largely depends on age, but can expect to commit to 3 weeks or longer of lots of fuzzy fun!
    • Special Medical or Behavioral Adult Cats – We ask that fosters for adult cats can care for them until they find their forever home to help reduce stress from changing environments.
    • Nursing Moms & Babies- The foster period for mom and babies also varies depending on the age of the babies! We will work together to allow mom time to relax while helping babies learn and develop with her care!
    • Bottle Baby Kittens & Puppies: SIGN UP TO ATTEND THIS CLASS on Sundays @1PM VIRTUALLY, HERE! – Bottle baby fosters are TRULY invaluable! These little babies are our most at risk population and depend on humans to take the place of mom as they grow.
    • Exotics/Small Critters – This includes but is not limited to rodents, small mammals, fish, amphibians, and other special care critters!
    • Farm Animals- These animals are difficult to accommodate in the shelter environment due to space constraints and fosters make the world of difference!
    • Adult Dogs – ALWAYS NEEDED!– We have just 26 kennels onsite and often resort to adult dogs residing in offices due to space limitations. Adult dogs are one of our greatest needs and thrive in foster homes!
